Last week was a whirlwind. It is always interesting trying to work and go about your normal duties with a visitor in town, but we did get to see some fun stuff in Raleigh. We got to see Cameron Village, TAC (she got to swim and watch while I coached), and we went to eat at The Pit, with Derek, Jan, and Dusty. It was delicious! The Pit is one of my favorite restaurants for traditional "southern" style food.
It was actually featured on the Food Network once. They cook all North Carolinian (sp?) hogs and you can actually watch them chop/marinate (is marinate the appropriate word?) them in a certain part of the restaraunt. We heard some loud pounding noises at one point during dinner and when a waiter saw my surprised face, he cleverly commented, "We have yet to find hogs that chop themselves." Wow.
It was great food though. I had the chopped pork with fried okra and cole slaw. Yum! Their sides include traditional southern foods like mashed potatoes, black-eyed peas, macaroni and cheese, collared greens, etc. I highly recommend you try it out. It has become my go-to place for out-of-town visitors (especially those from the north).
This weekend we did head to SC, but more on that later. I'm catching up slowly...but here is a little spoiler - I have a sunburn!! Yes, spring is officially here!! Hope you had a great weekend!
