Detroit Marathon: Part 2

The girls headed down early to find their wave and after downing some strong coffee and bundling up, my mom, dad, sister and I headed out to catch the start.

Searching for the girls...

We found them!!  Almost too late!
After we saw them, they ran a few miles through Detroit, then crossed the bridge to Canada.  After a few miles in Canada, they headed back to the USA through the tunnel.

We caught up with them during mile 8 after a water stop.  They looked great!

I was surprised that Cath was running in a tank top and refused to wear sleeves...we were freezing and it was raining.

We saw them again at mile 13 - and they still looked totally fresh!

Look! - there's my mom!
Hammin' it up for the camera.

After that, we didn't see them again until mile 21.  And believe it or not, they were still looking pretty good!  Emily was about 15 minutes ahead of them, but Catherine and Lori had picked up the pace (what?!).

Paula jumped in for a short jog to chat.

We missed the finish... whoops.  But we found them in the party tent scavenging for food and looking way too happy.

I'm so proud of them!  Way to go!!

It was fun being a spectator and getting to cheer them on.  The marathon was very well put on and the course was interesting.  The girls said it didn't seem to get old at all.  There was a hill about a 1/2 mile from the end that killed them a little, but I think at that point, anything hurts.

And the best part is, they all said they would do it again...That is a good sign.  It took me a while to say that after my marathon.
