Hope Floats

This week was not a great week.  Let's face it...this fall has not been great.   Life isn't always sunshine and rainbows.  Sometimes it just stinks.  This week, it was one thing after another.  I'm learning to put my trust in God, and his timing.  And I am counting my blessings every day, because I still have an awful lot to be thankful for.

Say a prayer for my family, as we are mourning the loss of a loved one and remembering happy memories this week.

Fall Bucket List

This is a new trend I've seen on Pinterest, but I am all about the daily goals to get myself out and moving in the world, so I'm jumping on board.

Here is a list of the things I want to accomplish this fall.  Some of them are obvious (ahem, marathon and squeezing baby cheeks) and some are just for fun.  And of course, they are in no particular order, I just wrote them as they came to me :).  What do you like to do in the fall?!

1.  Drink pumpkin coffee on my back porch with a good book.

2.  Make the pumpkin bread I found last year that was so tastey and easy!  Easy Pumpkin Break via Pinterest

3.  Have a pumpkin carving party.  I did this three years in a row when I moved here and then the last two years, I just got too busy.  I think it is a tradition I need to reinstate.

4. Go to a pumpkin patch.  Buying pumpkins at the Harris Teater is just not the same.  I want to try the corn maze, take a hay ride, and drink some hot cider.  It's the whole experience that counts!

5. Buy some pumpkin or apple scented candles to burn so that my house smells fantabulous!

6. Go to a football game.  Whether  it be high school or college.  There is something about the fall and football that just feels so comfortable and American.

7. Run a marathon!

8. Spoil my baby sister rotten for her birthday!

9. Cuddle my new little nephew and take pictures so that I can remember every moment with him when I come back to NC.  Oh, and spoil  him rotten too, so that he always remembers that I am the favorite auntie.

10. Find some fall decor for my house...a wreath maybe?  pumpkin centerpeice?  table runner?  something.

11. Have a bonfire (might be difficult, because this is not happening in my townhome backyard)

12. Run the Color Me Rad 5K.

13. Run the City of Oaks half-marathon.

14. Finish painting my stairwell/upstairs hallway.

15. Have a girls night.

16.  Find a costume for Halloween as I just got my first costume party invite... ideas are welcome.

I'm sure I'll think of more, but that is what I'm looking forward to for the fall!!

I Pinned it, I did it.

Over the past few weeks I have actually done some of the DIY things that I've pinned...Yay!

Numero uno:

I loved this personalized mug idea, so when I was wandering Target one day and found two white mugs on clearance, I had to get them.  I stuck with simple sayings and I love the way they turned out.

Numero dos:

This was super easy...I already had this bulletin board hanging in my room, but barely used it.  I cleaned it off and used the push pins to hang my big necklaces...now they aren't on my bathroom doorknob anymore - how convenient!  ( I do think I need to invest in some more pushpins though.)

Numero tres:

I made this as a birthday treat a few weeks ago and while you can tell I am clearly no professional, I thought it was a cute idea and it still tasted good.

Workouts: Week 22 and 23

I've been bad...I didn't post last week...The past two weeks have not been as ideal as I would have hoped thanks to a nasty cold and a crazy schedule, but I did get my last long run in and I feel ready to go!  Because I didn't get a longer run in, I'm going to make my taper run next weekend a 14-15 miler instead of the 10 that I was going to do.  Lucky for me, I've tapered a few swimmers in my day and hopefully I can tailor my taper to fit my training, just like I do with them.  :)

Anyway, here goes...

Monday:  3.5 miles
Tuesday:  Off
Wednesday:  6.5 miles
Thursday: Off
Friday:  Off
Saturday: Off (sick!)
Sunday:  Off (sick!)

Monday:  13 miles (fast!)
Tuesday:  Off
Wednesday:  6 miles
Thursday:  Off
Friday:  Off
Saturday:  17 miles
Sunday:  5 miles

My cold is almost complete gone now and I ran 5 miles the day after my long run, even though I almost never do that.  I wanted to run fatigued to make up for the lack of a 20 miler in my training this time.  Let's hope it works!

Two weeks from yesterday is the Chicago Marathon...yowza!

I am ready to go though...I have my race clothes picked out, I got approval from my principal to take two days off so I'll get to make it an extra long weekend with ample time to hang with Benjamin and recover, and  the flight is booked!  All I need to do now is stay healthy, hydrate, keep my training up and taper!  Yay!!

I can't believe it's almost here...

Benjamin Robert
Born September 21 at 6:19 am
19.5 in, 6 lb, 9 oz

He is absolutely perfect.
Paula is feeling well and Matthew is such a proud dad and husband.

I can't put into words how badly I wish I was there!  But soon... I cannot wait to give my sister and brother-in-law huge hugs and to cover that little babe in smooches.

Paula is a mom!!  and I am an Aunt!!  Can this week get any better?!

A few pictures that my mom took from Benjamin's Birthday...

The new family of three.

Proud grandpa right there.

Proud father.  What a smile!

Proud grandma!

Can you believe she just had that baby?!  She looks great and is so beautiful!  Thank goodness I have the same genes :)

What a handsome little fellow.   I think I might drive to Chicago tonight just to see him... I don't want to wait.

I made a splurge last week and finally decided on a carpet for my living room.  I've been looking at them for about a year now and I finally bit the bullet and bought one.  It helped that it was a huge sale!!  It came a few days ago and I am testing it out to make sure I like it.

What do you think??

Trip to Charlotte

This past weekend I headed to Charlotte to see my cousin, Stacey.  We went to see a Billy Joel cover band!    I love that my cousin and I both love the same old school music because it was such a fun night.  We caught up over dinner, then sang along to the songs for the rest of the night.  So fun!

Twin cousins.

Beautiful city on a beautiful day.

Friday Favorites

1.  French toast.  I might have made it for dinner this week after I was reminded of how awesome it was at brunch last Sunday... :)

2.  Dunkin Donuts coffee.  This is nothing new.  I treat myself every Friday morning and I look forward to it all week long!!

3.  My maxi skirt.  I think I may have worn it three times this past week (yes, I washed it too).  I am trying to wear it as much as possible before it gets too cold.

4.  My living room!!  You will see it soon.  Lots of redecorating going on right now and it is so cozy!  I love it.

5.  Pumpkin anything...pumpkin spiced lattes, pumpkin beer, pumpkin candles.  I love it all!

6.  Running.  I am in shape right now and I love it!  The weather is gorgeous, I look forward to my runs, I feel lean and strong, and I am so happy I decided to run the Chicago marathon this year.  I cannot wait!!  The flights are booked and all I have left are two long runs, a taper, and the race!

Workouts: Week 20

This week is going to look awful!  But don't fear.  I did a long run, just not until Monday :)  so because of the way I do things, it will show up on next weeks report.  I will admit, that my short runs were lacking hugely this week, but oh well.  I had a pretty good week overall.  It was the first week of school and quite busy, if I do say so myself.

Monday:  Off
Tuesday:  3 miles
Wednesday: Off
Thursday:  6 miles
Friday:  Off
Saturday:  Off
Sunday:  Off

Total:  9 miles

Wow, that makes me feel like a lazy P.O.S., but I know that I did my long run and it felt great!
