Girls Night

This past weekend we had a girls night.  Getting everyone together is not easy with different schedules, out of town trips, new jobs, new husbands, and boyfriends but I try to see my friends often.

It was one of those nights where we sat around one table, talking non-stop for hours.  Some of the girls I know really well, and a few I just met.  It didn't matter.  I haven't laughed that hard in ages and it was so nice.  We talked about everything and anything.  We need to do this more often...

St. Patty's Weekend Round-up

Last weekend Derek was gone for three days for a Bachelor party.  He went up to the mountains where they could play poker and shoot skeet (yes, we are in the south, y'all).  He had a lot of fun and it looked gorgeous up in the mountains!  - and I had a lot of free time on my hands.  This also happened to be my first full weekend off since Christmas!  I did it up.

Friday after work I met up with my friends Karen and Guy and watched Duke get beat by Lehigh!  Wahoo.  That really messed up my bracket, but I didn't really care. We went to a cute little pub in downtown Apex, which I love.  How cute is this town?!

The picture really doesn't do it justice, but I have mentioned it before here.  Adorable little town.  I used to work with Karen and Guy at school and they were so kind to let me crash their date and hang out.  It was so good to see them!

Saturday I fit a ton in...I gave some private lessons, I had lunch with Sara, we walked around the lake, and then I even started cleaning my house!  Not for long though.  I met Mandy for dinner and then I met some old teaching friends out for St. Patty's Day.  We saw the coolest bag-pipe band!

There were about 20 of them, bag pipes and drummers and they were intense!  We found out it is comprised of members of the Atlantic Beach Fire Department.  They were really good and they played for a long time.  A very festive way to end my St. Patty's Day.

On Sunday I ended up having to coach a Sunday morning practice (big thumbs down to that), and then I worked out and Rachael came over to sit on the couch to help me cheer on the Wolfpack!!  Who won!! They then advanced to the sweet sixteen!! Yay!

Sunday night when Derek got back we went out for sushi to get some quality time in.  I need more weekends like this!

Two Years

Two years ago today, I started dating my best friend.  We had known each other for a while, but finally, we decided to make it official and commit to each other.

The past two years have been some of the happiest I have known.

I am so lucky to be in love with my best friend.

(warning: picture overload...I couldn't narrow it down any more.)

He gets me, he makes me laugh, he loves me for me, he supports me, and he motivates me.

Here's to many more years together :)

Check out my post from last year.  Crazy to think a whole year has gone by since then.

Exciting News!

I'm so excited that I finally get to tell you all...

...  I'm going to be an aunt!

My sister is pregnant!  Congrats to her and Matt!  They are going to be great parents!

Here is the picture they used to tell people.  Isn't she creative?

I am so excited that they finally started telling people because I have not been very good at keeping my mouth shut about it...but now I don't have to worry about that!  Everybody knows!

Baby Strozak is coming at the end of September and I am going to spoil my little neice or nephew rotten.

I can't wait.

The Big Race

About a month ago, our friend Julia made a bet with Derek.  She bet him that he couldn't go under a 30.2 in the 50 breaststroke.  Now, for you non-swimming people, that's fast! - so it should have been a reasonable bet.  Derek was at a 34 when the bet was made.

Derek is one of the most competitive people I know and he was not going to lose this bet.  He had one month to prepare.  During this month he trained almost two hours a day in the water doing drills and sets as well as out of the water, lifting, stretching, etc.  He had several coaches, including myself.  He was so ready.

Last Thursday was the big day.  They set up the electronic timing system for it, and Bubba, another friend who was also involved in the bet, was swimming the 50 fly right next to Derek.

One of the coaches had lent Derek a suit (banned by current standards, but a suit, none-the-less) to race in and there was quite a crowd there to watch...

He swam a 28.7.  That's fast.  Especially in breaststroke and after only one month of training.  Very impressive.  Wow!

Don't ever bet against Derek.  He will find a way to win.

I'm so proud!

This past weekend we helped host a couples shower for Derek's best friend and his fiance, Mandy.

I had so much fun planning with Sara and I was so excited all day for the party.  I was so happy and relieved that we were able to pull everything off and that they seemed to have a great time.

We called the party the "Carpenter Cocktail Cruise."  To give you a little background, the couple first met on a cruise and then they got engaged on a cruise last December.

It was a blast!  We had so much fun with the theme and thinking of all the little details.  I might get some of the photobooth pictures up there for you too.

Back in the Game

Running Update:

I have started running again.  It is slow going, but slowly but surely, I am getting back into running shape.  I've been trying to make sure that I take a rest day after each run so that I don't over do it and injure myself in anyway.  I also limited myself to only 2-3 mile runs for the first two weeks because I didn't want to build my mileage too quickly.  It's been going well and I am starting to feel my body changing and adjusting and I am reminded of why I love it so much.

Yesterday, I had a flexible day and after my morning meetings I walked outside to a 75 degree, breezy, sunny day.  I high-tailed it home and set off on a run.  I knew I was going to want to stay outside for as long as possible, so I started off saying 3 miles at the most running, and then I told myself I would walk after that.  Well...I ended up changing my mind.  I went pretty slowly and took a few walking/stretch breaks to make sure I didn't over-do it and to make sure my back didn't spasm up (I've been having problems with that too).  I ended up going 5 miles!  And, I felt like I could have done it twice.  It was amazing.

It was so nice to be outside on such a nice day, to feel my body getting stronger, and to be relaxed.  I cannot wait for more spring weather like this.  It's so motivating to run in great weather!

Very Random Thoughts

Source: google.com via Lauren on Pinterest

- I was speaking with one of my masters swimmers today and she revealed her real age to me - 76!!  This woman swims four days a week at 5:30am.  Wow.  I don't know if I would do that right now unless it was a part of my job - let alone 50 years from now!! That is incredibly impressive and she does not look a day over 65.  I hope I have the discipline and drive to continue working out throughout my life.

- It is 81 degrees outside right now.   Sitting in my office without windows is really depressing, but the idea that this weather will be here to stay soon is keeping me going.  Oh, and that walk I took at lunch.  I am so ready for summer!

- I've been running again!  I don't want to jinx it and I am starting slowly, but I am working my way back into it.  My foot still hurts on occasion, but I don't think it's being caused by the running, so I will keep it up.  More info on that to come soon.

- I have a week off at Easter...anyone have any cheap, fun things to do?  I need ideas.
