An Illinois Weekend

Last weekend while I was in Chicago I also got a chance to attend a wedding.
It was quite the weekend.

The bride in the wedding was one of my college swimming friends from Illinois and I was actually kind of anxious to attend it the day of because I am not the best at keeping in touch with people and hadn't talked to some of the girls in a while.  There was no need for that because as soon as I saw them we caught up right where we had left off, had a blast and talked non-stop.  It was so good to see everyone and I even remembered to take a few pictures.

My favorite skyline :)

Lindsey and I - we were roommates and this girl made me laugh all through college.

Mary, Amy, Lindsey, and I.
I'm going to brag on my friends for a minute...Amy is a pediatrician in Seattle and Mary is a brew-master in Minneapolis.  Lindsey is a pastry chef in Champaign.  What talented friends I have!

And yet, we are still the same goofy people we always were.

What a fun night!

Here is a picture of all of us at the table.

It was an Illini Swimmer Reunion!

Showering BS with Love

Last weekend I traveled to Chicago while my mom, Catherine and I hosted a baby shower for Paula and Baby Strozak.  We had a blast planning and decorating and baking.  It was so good to spend time with everyone!

The Spread.  Yummy!

My mom and I had some fun making our first diaper cake.

My dad refinished the rocking chair for Paula. Excellent work Dad!

My aunt made that quilt for Paula as a surprise.  She is so talented!

Check out our handy-work with the cupcakes...Cath and I should open our own shop, right?!

The cool kids - Claire, Cath, Coach, Mom, and Maggie.

Paula, Matt, and Margaret (Matt's sister).  Don't mind Matt's shirt...he had been holding his new niece who drooled all over him :).

Chief wanted to be in the picture too.

The dessert spread.

The happy parents-to-be opening their surprise present at the end of the day.  It was good for a few laughs.

It was such a fun day and I hope Paula, Matt and Baby S felt loved!  I can't wait to meet my little nephew.

The aftermath...Paula is quite the organizer.

Check out Paula's blog for more info about BS and her pregnancy.

Swimmers Just Like to Have Fun

Hillarious.

I had to commemorate this day somehow because the Olympics start TONIGHT!!  It's finally here!!  I am that nerd that waits four years and then will stick glued to the tv for about two weeks so I don't miss a thing.  It's a good thing that I'm "in between" jobs - I won't even have to go to work to miss an event!!

I hope you get a chance to catch some of the opening ceremonies tonight.  I've heard that they will be pretty out of this world.

Happy Weekend!

A Picturesque Run

When I run in places that I am not familiar with, I bring my phone.  I look at maps before I go, but I am usually nervous about getting lost or stranded somewhere.  If I need to call someone or use a map, I'm covered.  The nice thing about this is that I can use it as my ipod on these runs and I can take pictures!

I started in our little neighborhood and had a circular route planned.

It was a very cute, very old little neighborhood, but my circular route did not exist and after two dead ends, I decided to head across the street to the park.  The park had these awesome ornate gates at the entrance that almost made me feel like I was trespassing...

I followed the path and soon found myself at an overlook.  The Hudson River was absolutely breathtaking.  Jackpot.  I am so glad I stumbled upon this.  And so glad I had a camera to capture it.

I finally convinced myself to keep running and I soon realized that this was no ordinary park.  This was a park that was build on the grounds of one of the old Vanderbilt mansions.  Yep.  The first house I came to was the information center and the second is the actual mansion.

I'm not sure I was completely awake yet...yikes.

It turns out that the neighborhood we were staying in, across the street included the carriage house and some of the groundskeepers houses.  How cool is that?!  I kept running and found the Italian gardens and some very pretty scenery.  Once again, Jackpot!!  What a lucky run!
